Of Reefs and Jungles

February 3rd, 2010

What a trip! From wandering around ancient Mayan ruins to swimming with sharks – Belize offered us an adventure to remember. We’d like to thank our hosts who shared their beautiful country with us – thanks again to duPlooys, Island Expeditions and Ian Anderson. Since our last update – we paid a visit to Aurora and Ernesto at Maya Centre where we learned first hand what life is like now for Mayans. We then made our way to the coast and out 40 miles to Glovers Reef Atoll to kayak, snorkel and fish (thanks Bea for catching us that dinner!). During our 3 days around Caves Branch – we tubed through spectacular caves, kayaked on rivers full of iguanas and hiked to massive sinkholes. We then finished our trip on the laid back island of Caye Caulker where we relaxed but not before we snorkeled with Stingrays, Sea Turtles and all kinds of other marine life. Thanks to the wonderful people who decided to come – this trip was not only a great adventure but time spent with good people. We’ll see y’all at the post trip and to those who missed out – look for where we are heading next!

Belize Update

January 15th, 2010

Hello Everyone from the shores of Dangriga. We have just spent 4 splendid days under the care of the lovely staff at duPlooy’s Jungle Lodge. A place where environmental stewardship is practiced as much as it is preached. We had such a great time that everyone in the group made a donation to help support the Belize Botanical Gardens under our name – this generous act was led by a Harbourfront regular Bea Starmans. We’ve seen ruins and visited ancient artifacts in caves and are set to visit a Jaguar reserve tomorrow before heading out to Glovers Reef Atoll to do some kayaking with our friends at Island Expeditions. Until the next update – we hope everyone is doing well wherever you are!
